Come watch Mission: Joy together!

6:30 - 8:00pm May 7th     - Get tickets at the door-
Reno Buddhist Center and Trinity Episcopal are partnering to present  Mission: Joy [FINDING HAPPINESS IN TROUBLED TIMES]. Everyone is invited to our joint screening of the new film. It is a fun and intimate look at the interfaith friendship between the 14th Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Lets recreate their friendship by watching the film with new friends from Trinity Episcopal community and the Reno Buddhist community!

Tickets - Make a donation at the door.
$5 suggested, but whatever you can is fine.

Mission Joy invites viewers into an intimate experience of deeply moving conversations. These two joyful people share hilarious banter bordering on the silly. And in the next moment, experience profound wisdom shared between the two spiritual leaders and friends. The conversations were also the basis for the New York Times bestseller, The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World.  If you've read it, come see them live in action as captured by the filmmakers.
*Following the film we will have a brief sharing session with Rev. Matthew of RBC and Rev Stephen of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
The film will be presented in the main hall at Reno Buddhist Center,
820 Plumas St. at 6:30pm - 8:00pm, May 7th.
Please donate as you can to support this presentation.
"Honor system" Popcorn and candy too!

About  Shaun Griffin  Nevada Writers Hall of Fame member -
His soulful poetry and engagement with Nevada communities make him one of the state’s most well-loved literary figures. He is the author of "This is What the Desert Surrenders", "Bathing in the River of Ashes and Woodsmoke", "Wind and the Peregrine", among others. Recurring themes in his poetry are "... family, landscape and work for justice in the larger world."

From Griffin: “I believe poetry has a central role in our lives – if we slow down and find the one poem that excites us. From there on, it is like returning to a fountain for fresh water. We can be a culture of poetry readers…if we listen for the voice lying dormant on the shelves.”

The Eikyoji Institute of America (originally located at 548 California Avenue) was established as a non-profit organization in 1989 by Alicia O. Matsunaga and Daigan L. Matsunaga with the wishes and dreams of Americans who wanted to see Buddhism take root in Nevada and offer the wisdom and practices of Buddhism to further benefit the country.

They established Reno Buddhist Church as a Sangha of non-denominational Buddhists (although affiliated with Jodo Shinshu Pure Land denomination of Japanese Buddhism).  In 1993, the EIA purchased the RBC Plumas St. property from the Lighthouse of God Church on November 29, 1993. The adjacent Shasta House was also purchased at this time along with the parking lot on the south side of Taylor St.

The RBC congregation (or Sangha) is made up of folks from all walks of American life.

We are American Buddhists.
