It's super fun to watch a movie in front of the temple with family and sangha friends! New Year Midnight Service - December 31st 2017 - 5th annual - Starting the new year off just-right is important. We gather at 10:00pm for social-time and have our service at 10:30pm-12:00 Midnight. Traditionally we ring the bell 108 times to let go of the 108 impediments to enlightenment - and/or to welcome the 108 Joys Abiding. Temple bells all over the world ring out this message. Tsurunokai Taiko drums will ring out as well as other musical selections from Jim Eaglesmith. We invite friends from other faiths to participate with a message of renewal and hope for the new year with a Multi-Faith New Year's Service. Guest leaders from Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Native American, and Baha'i faiths to participate with brief thoughts "On Gratitude".
Our Wellness event was full of incredible, positive energy on so many levels! From the inspirational Keynote by David Crow, to the savory Ayurvedic lunch - to the amazing practitioners and healers who shared their stories and knowledge with us, to the community members who attended and participated with full hearts and open minds. We have so much gratitude for all of you. THANK YOU!! (And a special shout-out to Sangha members who volunteered their time and effort to help make this happen - we could not have done it without you!).
What a gorgeous hike to Spooner Lake focusing on 'mindfulness'! The Fall colors and crisp air were the perfect accompaniment to the Dharma talk, which was about being in the present moment.
Our Annual Sangha picnic was a joyful afternoon filled with good vibes, good friends and good food. Thank you to everyone who came down to the park and sat under the willow tree with us!
Our annual PET BLESSING was last weekend and wow! 48 creatures were blessed, including a mouse and a gecko. Each year we welcome all of our furry, feathered and scaly friends!
Once again we were honored to be a part of Artown this year. We had two performances held at the Temple featuring our own Nembutsu Chanters. Chants from various Buddhist traditions were performed. What an uplifting and fun(!) event! DID YOU KNOW? The Resident Priests at RBC are very active participants in our local religious community. They often attend events with other religious organizations in town, in the name of sharing, education, diversity and community. Last week, Reverend Matthew was part of a panel discussion at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Twice a year, he participates in this discussion teaching new nurses to be sensitive to the different world views patients may have. On the panel there are representatives of Hinduism, Islam, Catholicism, Judaism and LDS. It is a time of sharing and contrasting how different and similar the world religions truly are. Rev Matthew always looks forward to the practical experiences and questions that the nurses ask. And he also appreciates the refresher on details of other religious views! ![]() |
